Global Data Sharing Engineer

The Global Data Sharing Team (GDST) supports Expedia by delivering evolving global legal and regulatory requirements for sharing data with government authorities, partners, and other approved recipients. The team coordinates data-sharing initiatives across jurisdictions, brands, and lines of business—from understanding new requirements and preparing for jurisdiction launches to delivering recurring reports, outreach, data pulls, and operational controls.

GDST works at the intersection of Legal, Government Affairs, Tax, Product & Technology, Regulatory Operations, Partner and Customer Experience, and other global teams to turn complex requirements into accurate, secure, auditable, and scalable data-sharing solutions. The team is also shaping the future of this space by improving day-to-day operations through automation, AI-enabled workflows, and reusable technical patterns that reduce manual effort and increase reliability.

We are looking for a high-energy, motivated individual who can design technical operational methodologies and coordinate across a diverse, globally distributed team to help Expedia Group meet its legal and regulatory obligations.

In the team, you will maintain strong alignment with key departments to ensure our response to evolving global data sharing requirements are well planned and effectively implemented. This includes partnering with various stakeholders on new jurisdiction launches, reporting requirements, and collaborate closely across multiple teams to identify and prioritize legal requirements. We need someone with passion for problem solving and acute attention to detail.

In this role you will:

  • Own well-defined, cross-functional infrastructure and data-platform initiatives from technical discovery and requirements through architecture, implementation, testing, release, monitoring, and handover.
  • Serve as the reporting and technical requirements subject-matter expert for Product & Technology teams, translating regulatory and operational needs into data contracts, technical specifications, product requirements, acceptance criteria, and actionable delivery plans.
  • Design, build, and operate reliable queries, data pipelines, data models, APIs, integrations, and reporting infrastructure that produce accurate, secure, and auditable regulatory outputs.
  • Identify high-volume, repetitive, or error-prone work and design, prototype, and productionize AI-enabled workflows with appropriate validation, human oversight, data protection, auditability, and post-launch ownership.
  • Shape the future of data-sharing automation roadmap and influence Regulatory and Data Sharing Operations, Marketplace Operations, Trust & Safety, Product & Technology, Traveler and Partner Service Platform, and other partner teams by establishing reusable patterns, leading UAT and release readiness, and mentoring analysts and more junior engineers.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
  • You have 6+ years of relevant experience with infrastructure engineering, data engineering, designing, building, and operating reliable, scalable cloud-based systems, infrastructure platforms, data services, or enterprise integrations in production.
  • You have experience independently leading well-defined technical projects involving multiple systems, services, data sources, or cross-functional partners.
  • You have expert SQL and data-modeling skills, including complex joins, reconciliation, aggregation, date logic, exception handling, and performance-aware query design.
  • You have experience developing or operating production data pipelines, reporting processes, or workflow automation with repeatable controls and auditability.
  • You have designed or implemented AI-assisted workflows, intelligent automation, or decision-support tools and understand how to apply validation, human oversight, security, privacy, and governance in production.
  • You are proficient in at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, Java, Kotlin, Scala, Bash, or PowerShell, and have experience with cloud platforms, APIs, version control, testing, monitoring, alerting, incident response, or root-cause analysis.

Preferred qualifications

  • You have hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operating infrastructure or configuration as code in production cloud environments, including reusable modules, environment-specific configuration, pull-request-based change management, CI/CD deployment, state or drift management, observability, and secure operational controls.
  • You have experience with business intelligence or reporting tools, enterprise software integrations, data-quality controls, partner or supplier reporting, or compliance and regulatory data.
  • You have led user acceptance testing and converted ambiguous business requirements into clear technical designs, acceptance criteria, and operational runbooks.
  • You have experience with large language model (LLMs), agentic, semantic indexing, document or data extraction, workflow orchestration, or other AI automation patterns.
  • You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical partners and can influence Product & Technology, Regulatory and Data Sharing Operations, Marketplace Operations, Trust & Safety, Legal, Tax, and other stakeholders across geographies and time zones.
