Health Care Assistant Apprentice

Aim to maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients within the Hospice.

To undertake clerical duties as required.

Main duties of the job

A typical day in the job includes:

  • Assisting and working under supervision with other members of the hospice team
  • Giving personal care to patients, including washing and dressing
  • Supporting patients with their nutritional needs
  • Communicating with patients and families sensitively and professionally

About us

Wirral Hospice St Johns has a 41 year history of supporting the residents of Wirral who have incurable life limiting illness. The organisation continues to grow and develop in response to the needs of our community. Currently support is delivered by multi professional teams working in our Inpatient unit, Outpatient, Wellbeing and Hospice at Home services.

The hospice benefits from being an independent charity allowing flexibility and creativity in the design and delivery of services whilst being firmly integrated with key local NHS providers. Care and support is delivered with integrity and quality.

This post is a Fixed term contract of employment for the duration of your apprenticeship, upon successful completion of your course your contract of employment will become permanent, which is subject to satisfactory completion of your probationary period.

Job responsibilities

Job title: Apprentice HealthCare Assistant x 2 (Inpatient & Hospice @ Home)

Annual Salary: £14,723 - £23,810 per annum (national minimum wage for your age)

Location: Hospice and Wirral Community

Hours: Working 37.5 hours per week over a 7 days a week rota

Contract: Fixed term for the duration of the apprenticeship with permanent role upon successful completion of course.

  • Communicating with patients and families sensitively and professionally

The two posts are Fixed term contracts of employment for the duration of the apprenticeship, upon successful completion of the course and (if required) attainment of your driving licence, your contract of employment will become permanent, which is subject to satisfactory completion of your probationary period.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2 GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 or above- or Functional Skills equivalent.
  • N/A

COMPETENCIES AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Dealing with the public or experience in a public facing role
  • IT skills including Microsoft office
  • Knowledge of health care record systems

SKILLS

  • Ability to relate to a wide range of people
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to learn how to drive during apprenticeship
  • Full driving license with access to a car
